Traditional Prime Rib Recipe
The best way to make sure that you cook the perfect prime rib every time is to follow the traditional method as your guests will be sufficiently impressed and able to relate with the recipe. For this type of prime rib you will only need Kosher salt and fresh ground black pepper.
Step 1: The day before you decide that you are going to cook the prime rib, ensure that you unwrap your roast and let it sit in the refrigerator without any covering. This helps to dry the outside of the meat, which is essentially for achieving a browned outside.
Step 2: Approximately 2-3 hours before the cooking process begins, make sure that you take the roast out of the fridge and allow it to sit at room temperature.
Step 3: 30 minutes before cooking time, preheat the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit and ensure that you generously season the meat with Kosher salt and fresh ground black pepper, to taste. If you have other seasonings that you enjoy, you can consider using them as well.
Step 4: Now you will want to prepare your roasting pan as it is important that it has a rack. When placing the prime rib on the rack in the roasting pan, put it with its fat facing upwards. Ensure that you place a meat thermometer in the prime rib while it is cooking. If you’re using a digital one, you can set an alert when the internal temperature reaches 120 degrees Fahrenheit, otherwise you will have to consistently check the meat to make sure that it is cooked throughout.
Step 5: Allow the roast to cook for about 20 minutes and then lower the internal temperature of the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. This could take another hour to three hours, depending on the thickness of the meat.
Step 6: After the cooking has finished, place the meat on the counter and allow it to sit for about 30 to 45 minutes. Once this has been completed, the meat is now ready to be served.
