You don’t need to be a celebrated chef to cook some sumptuous cube steak in the oven. For those wondering about the culinary jargon, cube steak is high quality beef cut from the loin which is then pounded to become tender. Cooking a cube steak is easy, quick and it makes for a filling meal. Let us check out the simple approach to cook cube steak in the oven.
You would need cube steaks, a rub which could be just celery salt or some special rub of your choice, water, a baking dish, white onion, diced green bell pepper, crushed cloves of garlic and an aluminum foil. The quantity of these ingredients will depend on the number of cube steaks you wish to cook. Usually, for two cube steaks you would need half a cup of water, one medium sized white onion, one green bell pepper and two cloves of garlic. You can also opt for some vegetables. Carrot and beans are perennial favorites. You can also use sea salt instead of celery salt. The recipe is really up to you.
Thaw the cube steaks and dry them using a paper towel. As you administer the rub on the cube steaks, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Once the meat is seasoned, take the baking dish and place the steaks. The baking dish should be shallow. Pour the water. Sprinkle the garlic and place the vegetables sliced or diced or cut into small pieces around the cube steaks. Wrap the dish with the aluminum foil and wait for the oven to attain its temperature.
Once preheated, place the baking dish inside and let it cook for half an hour. Depending on the quality of the meat and the ingredients you have put in, it could take twenty minutes for a medium rare steak or more than thirty minutes. Check the vegetables if they are cooked and crunchy after twenty or twenty five minutes. If the meat is not of amazing quality and thus should be cooked well, then you may want to opt for forty minutes. Whether a beef steak should be well done or be cooked to medium rare would depend on the quality of the meat. Serve cube steaks with roasted potatoes or just mashed potatoes and any sauce you may like.
