Little smokies or cocktail wieners are a must-have if you are hosting a party. Even if you are not hosting a party and trying to spice up an evening, smokies can be a great solution. The best thing about smokies is it is easy to cook. It doesn’t take much time and you can easily cook in large quantities if you have many guests at your home.
There are many ways to cook little smokies. You can pick a sauce of your choice and you may choose to cook it conventionally or in a slow cooker. You may even want to bake little smokies. Here is a quick guide to help you cook little smokies.
The first method is the conventional way. Take a saucepan and fill it up with barbecue sauce. You may choose to use any variant of barbecue sauce and you may also make your own barbecue sauce. Heat the saucepan on medium or low heat on a stove. The quantity of barbecue sauce should be in proportion to the quantity of little smokies you intend to cook. The little smokies, that should have already been drained, have to be added to the barbecue sauce once it heats up. You need to submerge the little smokies in the sauce for effective cooking. Turn down the stove to simmer and let it cook for about fifteen odd minutes or a little more if you have a lot of little smokies. In about twenty minutes, you would notice that the sauce has thickened and that is your cue to turn the stove off.
Slow Cooker Method
The second method involves using a slow cooker. You would need a slow cooker, barbecue sauce and little smokies. Pour in the sauce, add the little smokies and stir them so every sausage is well blended and covered in the sauce. Put the lid of the slow cooker back on and leave it on ‘high’ setting for about two hours. This method will not be desirable if you are in a hurry.
The third method involves baking. You should preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. While the oven preheats, toss the little smokies in a bowl of barbecue sauce. You can use other sauces of your choice as well. Mix the sauce and the sausages well and then spread them on a baking sheet. Place the baking sheet inside the oven and let it cook for up to fifteen minutes. Once cooked, smother some more barbecue sauce on the little smokies before serving.
