How To Cook Razor Clams

There are dozens of ways to cook razor clams. If you are an enthusiast, then you should try out more than one way to cook razor clams. Here are a few ways to go about it.

Ingredients and Recipe

Obviously, razor clam chowder would be one of the first recipes you would try out. Here’s what you need: diced leeks or onions, potatoes, diced garlic, olive oil or some other oil of your choice, butter milk, chicken broth, Tabasco sauce, evaporated milk and of course razor clams. Cooking it is quite simple. You need a cast iron oven or soup pot where you put the potatoes in a tablespoon of olive oil and fry till the potatoes are slightly brown. Put in the diced garlic and sauté the mix for a couple minutes. Put the clams in and add the evaporated milk as well as butter milk along with all other ingredients. Turn the oven to low and cook for a few minutes till you can see that the potatoes are done. Don’t allow the milk to boil.

Pan fried razor clams are also a popular recipe. You need razor clams, eggs, flour, bread crumbs, a bit of pepper and sea salt. Once the razor clams are rinsed and dried, dip them in the flour. You may add the salt and the pepper in the flour before dipping the clams. Beat the eggs and add the clams dipped in flour into the eggs. Bring in the bread crumbs and roll the clams dipped in flour and coated with eggs. Take a bit of oil on a pan and fry the clams for a minute. Flip the clams and cook till they are brown on both sides. You can serve these razor clams with tartar sauce.

Broiled or baked razor clams are also quite simple to make. You need the clams, eggs, crackers or some alternative, melted butter or margarine. Turn on the broiler and set it to high. Clean the clams, beat the eggs and add the cleaned clams into the eggs. Coat them with crackers or you can use bread crumbs. Place the clams on a baking sheet. You should coat the baking sheet with a bit of butter so it is greased enough. Don’t pile up the clams. Have only one layer. Add some butter to the clams. Place the pan on the topmost rack which is under the broiler and cook for about three minutes. Flip the clams and cook for another three minutes. Always start with a super hot oven. Attain 500 degrees before you start cooking and don’t overcook clams.
